IPL 2020: Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will compete against defending champions Mumbai Indians in the preliminary match of IPL 2020 as per the scheduled schedule. The schedule of this T20 league to be held in UAE from 19 September is expected to be announced by BCCI on Saturday, Sep 5th.
The IPL 2020 was scheduled to be held in India from March to May, but was postponed due to the corona virus. At that time the preliminary match was scheduled to be between the two former champions Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings. After this, due to Corona virus it was decided to do this league in UAE instead of India.
It was the BCCI's plan to hold its inaugural match between CSK and MI, but it was believed to be due to two players from the CSK team and 11 members of the support staff being found corona infected. That the BCCI was considering to replace Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in place of Chennai Super Kings in the opening match.
BCCI sources clarified that the opening match will be played between Mumbai and Chennai and the board is confident of controlling the Corona infection situation by that time.
The tournament schedule of this T20 league is likely to be announced by BCCI on Saturday 5 September.
The league will be played in three UAE cities - Dubai, Sharjah and Abu Dhabi. Its final will be held on 10 November. After this, the Indian team will leave for the tour of Australia from the UAE itself.
